Seafood at the Beach and the Crab Market |
|
Despite the excellent quality fare served at several of Kep's resorts and hotels, most visitors to this seaside destination opt for the local delicacy - crab. The way to go is to find yourself a platform at the beach near the main junction in town, and then just sit back and wait for the vendors to come to you.
Once they've found you, choose from a variety of seafood delicacies including prawns, squid, crab and fish, all prepared a variety of ways, and always tasty and as fresh as can be. The real local speciality is Kampot Pepper Crab - a fried crab liberally doused with the firey local peppercornsm - and this is a must do item for seafood lovers. Most vendors have menus in English - or a variation thereof - and be sure to agree a weight and priuce when ordering to avoid any unpleasantness when you finish your meal. The beachfront crab market is another ideal place to try the local seafood, and it is usually open until around 10 or 11pm.
